This course introduces 3rd-year EFL students to the critical events and transformations in Britain from early to mid-20th century. Covering a period marked by two World Wars, economic upheavals, and significant social changes, students will explore the impact of these events on British society. Key events include the social and political reforms of that era and the establishment of the welfare state, the women's suffrage movement, the Anglo-German rivalry that led to the outbreak of the WWI and its significant impact on Britain and its colonies. Through lectures, presentations, and discussions, students will gain a nuanced understanding of how these formative decades shaped modern Britain and its place in today's world.
